SPENCER, WV TO CELEBRATE COLONEL RUBY BRADLEY'S 100TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY, DECEMBER 19, 2007

Spencer, West Virginia - A committee of local townspeople, led by Dr. Aaron Cottle, are celebrating the 100th birthday anniversary of U.S. Army Colonel Ruby G. Bradley, the Army's most decorated female soldier and Prisoner of War. The event will be held December 19, 2007 in the Heritage Building, 110 Church Street, Spencer, WV, which is cattycorner to the City Building and two blocks from the Roane County Court House. Plenty of free parking is available. Homemade soup, and sandwiches, cake and drinks will be provided. The public is invited to attend.

As a POW for 37 months, Col. Bradley shared her food with children who were being held captive. She and other nurses set up a clinic to care for the sick and wounded and to comfort the dying. She was among a group of imprisoned nurses who became known to captives as the Angels in Fatigues, delivering 18 babies and participating in 230 surgeries.
Col. Bradley weighed about 86 pounds Feb. 3, 1945, when U.S. troops arrived ... to free her.

The event begins at noon with a flyby from a P51D Mustang fighter aircraft. Denver Gandee, WWII veteran, Purple Heart recipient and friend of Col. Bradley will speak briefly, followed by the keynote speaker, Miles Epling, American Legion Adjutant and past National Commander. After the conclusion of the official ceremonies, Ralph Edwards' 1954 TV program "This is Your Life" featuring Col Bradley, will show in the first public viewing since the original program aired. Becky Bolte follows, giving her portrayal of Col Bradley with a brief question and answer session in character. Events conclude with a round table
discussion of Col. Bradley's life.
